Registered Teacher Criteria workshops

The NZ Teachers Council hosted a series of workshops nationally from May - September 2010 to help professional leaders and others successfully implement the new Registered Teacher Criteria with their teachers. These were an opportunity to workshop materials to support professional development of colleagues in implementing the new criteria.  The criteria replace the Satisfactory Teacher Dimensions from 2011 for most teachers.

The Council will be hosting further workshops from February - April 2011, primarily for those professional leaders who missed the 2010 workshops. The programme is listed below. If you would like to attend please email Alastair McLean (Alastair.mclean@teacherscouncil.govt.nz) with the workshop session date, the names of the attendees and their institution.

The workshops will run from 9:00am - 12:30pm. There is no cost to attend.

For Christchurch / Canterbury schools and ECE services, the University of Canterbury UC Education Plus team will be running a workshop on 22 February.  Enrol at www.edplus.canterbury.ac.nz/courses.

As a general guideline, no more than two people per school/centre should enrol but this may vary to meet individual needs.

  • Workshops will also be offered to educators in initial teacher education programmes when Council staff are in their area.  Institutions will be contacted directly.
  • School advisory services such as Team Solutions are now familiar with the criteria and schools should approach their local teams if they want further support to introduce the criteria to teaching staff.
  • Organisations providing professional development to early childhood education (ECE) services should contact Deborah.Wansbrough@teacherscouncil.govt.nz. Deborah can provide professional development advice on the criteria to ECE services.
  • Further inquiries about the content of the professional development programme or requests for  support for professional leaders can be directed to cynthia.shaw@teacherscouncil.govt.nz

Further information can be found on the Registered Teacher Criteria page, which also provides the timeline for implementation.
