'Teachers in Action' photo competition
Whether you capture your teacher demonstrating a cool chemistry experiment, or a teacher unleashing their inner Picasso in an artwork, we want to see your best photo entries.
Step 1: Register to enter
All schools and early childhood education (ECE) services wishing to submit photos need to register and agree to copyright permission and competition terms and conditions. We will then send all valid registrations further details and a unique ID number to use when sending photo entries. This means we can verify the photos are from a valid source.
Click here to register now. Registration due: Wednesday, 20 October 2010
Step 2: Happy snapping
We don't mind who takes the photo, as long as it captures a teacher in ‘action mode', doing what they do best! Once you're happy with your photo/s send them through to the Teachers Council. Further details, including where to send the photos, will be provided in our registration confirmation email.
Tech specs:
- high resolution photos (5 MP = 2592 x 1944 pixels or higher) are required
- up to ten photo entries per school or ECE service
- Photo entries due: Friday, 22 October 2010.
Step 3: Judging
We will upload all photos to our website using Flickr. Judging will happen on Thursday 28 October and we'll announce the winners on World Teachers' Day - Friday 29 October. The judges will be using the following criteria:
- Dynamic - an 'action shot' depicting a teacher doing what they do best!
- Technical - clarity of image, good resolution.
Step 4: Prizes and promotion
THREE SECTOR WINNERS
Our judges will choose the most dynamic and technical photo from the following three categories (one per category):
- ECE services
- primary/kura/intermediate
- secondary/wharekura
Each of the winners will receive their photo as a 16 x 20 inch canvas to proudly display on the wall.
OVERALL WINNER
The overall winner selected from the three category winners will receive the amazing Canon Powershot D10.
This camera is an ideal resource for a school or ECE service because it's built for all conditions. The winner will also receive a case to protect their new resource.

"The PowerShot D10 is Canon's first waterproof compact digital camera for spectacular underwater photography up to 10m. The sturdy body structure is built to endure a variety of environments, freezeproof to -10 and shockproof to 1m giving you the ability to take pictures absolutely everywhere" www.canon.co.nz
The winners will be contacted on Thursday 28 October by phone.
The winning photos will be announced on our website. They will also be made available to the media to recognise and celebrate the important role of teachers in society. Your name and school or ECE service will be acknowledged.
