Review of the ITE requirements and processesINITIAL TEACHER EDUCATION (ITE) PROGRAMMESCONSULTATION ON THE REQUIREMENTS AND APPROVAL PROCESSESDear Colleague Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou Warm greetings In 2007, the New Zealand Teachers Council (the Council) commenced a review to establish requirements and a process for the approval, continuing approval and monitoring of ITE programmes which is fair, transparent, research informed and sector acceptable. The process needs to take account of the involvement of other quality assurance bodies in the tertiary sector involved with accreditation and approval of ITE programmes, namely: Committee on University Academic Programmes (CUAP), New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics Quality (ITPQ). The overall aims of the review are to increase the effectiveness of the approval and monitoring processes and to strengthen the quality of graduates entering the profession. The Council invites you and your colleagues to discuss the statements and questions in the consultation document and provide feedback. The Council would like either your or your organisation’s views on the requirements for programmes of ITE and the processes by which the Council approves these programmes in the tertiary sector.
