Learning to Teach Research Programme 2006-2008
Learning to Teach is a major research programme launched by the Teachers Council to investigate the quality of advice and guidance accessed by provisionally registered teachers in New Zealand. The research programme is comprised of three stages: a literature review, a national survey of provisionally registered teachers and in-depth case studies. The Learning to Teach research programme was commissioned to provide a broader and more in-depth evidence base for the development of policies and advice to schools, kura, early childhood centres, initial teacher education providers, provisionally registered teachers themselves and others in the education community who have a role in the support and professional education of newly qualified teachers.
All stages in the research programme have been completed and are published as:
Learning to Teach: A Literature Review of Induction Theory and Practice
This report by Marie Cameron is a review of international and New Zealand literature describing best practices, underpinning theories and approaches to induction, including mentoring and assessment of newly qualified teachers. The report also provides an overview of the existing induction practices in New Zealand in early childhood education services, Māori medium settings and in other primary and secondary schools.
