The research provides information on initial teacher education providers' policies and practice in 2005 in relation to early childhood education, primary and secondary qualifications for programmes that lead to teacher registration. It represents a 'snapshot' in time of initial teacher education provision in New Zealand as outlined in provider documentation and through interviews with teacher educators. Key chapters address conceptual frameworks, content of qualifications, assessment, Treaty of Waitangi, inclusion, practicum, staffing, quality assurance procedures and constraints and challenges to quality initial teacher education.
