DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou Consultation on registration requirements Earlier this year I met with many of you at workshops to discuss issues to do with the registration system. At the time I signalled that we would consult with you during October and November. A consultation document has been prepared and is available at: http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/policy/consultation.stm The Council now has some proposals for registration requirements. These include a possible new framework for registration. We are seeking your feedback on these proposals. A consultation document including questions has been prepared and is available at: http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/ The final date for providing feedback is Friday 27 November 2009. You can:
For any queries, email: erin.pilcher@teacherscouncil.govt.nz or marnie.hainsworth@teacherscouncil.govt.nz The registration policy will be finalised after this consultation period. Implementation of this policy will be phased in over time and will be dependent on the timing of any desired legislative changes. Changes that do not require legislative change will begin to be implemented from 2010. Director’s meetings with professional leaders in November In support of this consultation, I will again be visiting a number of regions during November to discuss the issues with professional leaders. Linking Minds Scholarship - applications are open Linking Minds is a prestigious international award for young teachers who identify themselves as emerging leaders. The award is sponsored by the NZ - UK Link Foundation, the British Council, the New Zealand Teachers Council and the Ministry of Education. The award funds four New Zealand teachers to spend two weeks over the April holiday period of every second year attached to a Local Authority in the United Kingdom exploring best practice in the region. An additional component examining language immersion settings in a Welsh language school will also be included in the programme this year. Participants must be in their first five years as fully NZ registered teachers in the schools sector and under 35 years old. The costs of travel, accommodation and general living expenses including interview and selection costs will be met. Applications are open for the 2010 travel component and are welcome from teachers in the primary, secondary, Māori medium and early childhood sectors who show leadership potential, and who demonstrate effective and/or innovative practice.
