A complaint has been made about me

You have received a letter from the New Zealand Teachers Council that a mandatory report from your employer or a complaint from a member of the public has been received regarding concerns about your conduct or competence as a teacher.

Conduct or Competence?

Conduct concerns refer to aspects of a teacher's behaviour that calls into question his/her ability to practise safely as a teacher.

If the issue is regarding your conduct then the complaint/report will be referred to a Complaints Assessment Committee to investigate. Read further information on the process for dealing with conduct issues.

Competence concerns refer to whether or not you meet the Satisfactory Teacher Dimensions/Registered Teacher Criteria.

If the issue is regarding your competence then you will be referred to the competence process. Read further information on the competence process.

If you are unsure about whether it is a conduct or competence issue then please contact the Manager: Teacher Practice at the New Zealand Teachers Council.
