Disciplinary Tribunal

The Disciplinary Tribunal consists of a Chairperson, who is a lawyer with at least seven years' experience, and ten other members who have been appointed by the NZ Teachers Council after consultation with interested representative groups. Six of the eleven members are also NZ Teachers Council members. One of the members must be a layperson - in other words, someone who is not a teacher or a member of a Board of Trustees. Details of the Disciplinary Tribunal members will be posted on this page when they have been made public.

Only five members of the Disciplinary Tribunal will sit on each hearing (the Chairperson and four others).

The Disciplinary Tribunal will be convened as required to deal with cases of serious misconduct and other cases which cannot be resolved by the CAC.

The powers and procedure of the Disciplinary Tribunal are set out in sections 139AQ, AU, AW, AX, AY and AZ of the Education Act 1989 and in the NZ Teachers Council Conduct RUles which can be found on this site here.
