About Us

What is the NZ Teachers Council?

The NZ Teachers Council is the professional body for all registered teachers working in early childhood, primary, secondary, tertiary and other teaching situations.

The vision of the NZ Teachers Council is to be the professional voice of teaching.

The NZ Teachers Council was established under the Education Standards Act 2001 and replaced the Teacher Registration Board on the 1st February 2002 .

Teachers make up the majority of the Council and in this way have responsibility for leading and shaping the overall direction and standards for their profession.

The establishment of the NZ Teachers Council provides a professional forum for teaching that will play a major role in maintaining and developing the capability of the teaching profession.
